I use 3 strands of strong, durable yarn for the base (this one has one strand each of ivory, light tan beige and light heather grey for a driftwood effect). Then I add foot long, thick, beautiful fringe on each end. See more color ideas here:

This richly textured throw blanket is warm without being suffocating and is the perfect, snuggle size to enfold and nurture an individual or a couple (6 feet long including fringe x 3 feet wide to start; it's very elastic because of the special stitch I used, so it easily stretches to wider).
